We’re Sewanna and Barry Rogers and have our corporation, Bear Brained
Ideas, Inc., home-based in Waco,
Texas.
Doggy Dock® came about because of the need to help our "Grand-dog" Jake, get
back aboard our house boat located on Lake Waco. The boat or "barge" as they’re
called in this part of the country was 37ft. long and had top, front and rear decks.
Great for eating, partying or just napping. Jake, of course, enjoys all these
activities immensely. Being a Yellow Lab, he also loves to retrieve and go swimming but had a heck of a time getting out of the water and back on the
barge. After several attempts and by trial and error…viola! …the concept of
Doggy Dock® was born and a working model was built. Jake liked the independence
and deciding for himself when he wanted to go for a swim. We’d miss him, only to
find him in the water doing lazy figure eights!
It became apparent there were many applications for an inflatable, floating,
dog
platform that recreational boaters and hunting enthusiasts alike would find
useful. We wanted to produce and market our invention and for our protection decided to have
Doggy Dock® patented (US Patent No. 6,722,307 B1) and trademarked (Serial No.
78167947 - Registration No. 2,872,651). Doggy Dock® may be attached to a boat, pontoon boat, sailboat, dock, pool edge,
hunting blind, tree (surrounded by water), and most anywhere the water depth allows
for the unit to float. Since it’s deflatable it’s also easy to store.
Mindful of the stress and, yes, pain that a dog may encounter if inhumanely
yarded back into a boat, we were determined to incorporate comfort and safety
into our product. Our invention lead us in many directions and finally to Idaho
where we worked with two quality conscious manufactures with the expertise,
technology and materials to produce all the components needed to make Doggy
Dock® the best aid designed to getting a dog out of the water. Ed Wilson with
Custom Roto Molding, roto-molds and produces the deck unit that sits atop the
flotation platform. Dave Klein and Steve Stowe with Buck’s Bags produce the
entire ramp and floatation unit and attach the deck. The completed product
is then available for shipment from Boise,
Idaho.
Sales, marketing and distribution
is handled by Pet Classics. George Yankopoulos or Jan Wiggin would love to deliver
a
Doggy Dock® to your K-9 friend.
